Charrer-Veiller is the first podcast created in French in Louisiana by Louisianians. The two young hosts, Chase Cormier and Joseph Pons, discuss what’s happening in francophone Louisiana and invite guests to talk about their own projects involving Louisiana language and culture.
These are long-form podcasts, often running over 40 minutes long, so they’re a good way to practice listening for an extended period of time for learners who are a bit further along in their French. If it’s feeling like too much talking to process, take it easy, use the settings to slow down the playback speed as needed, and don’t get discouraged if you get tired after listening for a little while. It’s normal; just take a break and come back to it later.
As the hosts discuss, their own ways of speaking French are influenced both by international experiences (in Canada and Europe) and by their roots here in Louisiana. Depending on the episode, they might talk about loupgarous (werewolves) or people’s experiences learning French in Louisiana or “Ti-Wayne” (=Lil Wayne, the rapper). They currently only have one season but follow them on Youtube or Facebook to be alerted when they add another.
