Le Bourdon de la Louisiane is an online newspaper in the style of a blog or webzine (with several contributors). It was launched in November of 2018 by co-editors-in-chief Bennett Boyd Anderson III and Sydney-Angelle Dupléchin-Boudreaux, both young Louisianians who have reclaimed French in their families. Its name (“The Louisiana Bumblebee”) is a nod to L’Abeille de la Nouvelle-Orléans (“The New Orleans Bee”), the last French-language newspaper in Louisiana, which stopped publication in the 1920s.

Contributions vary from short informational pieces to original creative writing to longer editorials debating complex concepts about Louisiana and the French-speaking world, like “If French-speaking Louisiana were to establish a national holiday, what would it be?” or “What should the role of standard international French be in the Louisiana French movement?”

Learners should know that the site is not in English; some articles are written in French and some in Kourivini/Louisiana Creole. The French may lean more towards or away from Louisiana French depending on the contributor. Many contributors are from Louisiana but Le Bourdon also accepts contributions from other places.
